Get your print design wrong… and you are throwing your money away!

How long has it been since you took a thorough look at your stationery? Quite often, because of lack of time, slack stock control, or just overlooking the current need, you have to place a rush order for stationery or other printing. So… you just order more of what you ordered last time - and desperately hope your printer isn't too busy to do your work 'yesterday'!

Whoa!… If that's you, now's the time to make peace with your stressed-out printer, AND review and upgrade the whole image and purpose of your business as it is represented by your business stationery design.

After you have made a strong coffee/tea, start by collecting samples of every piece of printed matter you use in your business. At this point you will get a good idea of what you have that you rarely or never use! You can also brainstorm what printing you should have, but don't right now. You will end up with a list of every piece of business stationery that will help your business run more efficiently and productively… once you have refined the designs.

Key question… what do you want each item to achieve?

The most obvious and necessary goal should be to have your business stationery reflect the true image and purpose of your activities.

Does your business have a recognised presence in your market, or is it a bit ho-hum? Consider the colours you use, your logo design, any additional graphics, wording of documents and the overall and harmonious appearance of each item. Does each piece of stationery fit a common theme and move the customer/client towards the action you want them to take? Are they worded to build expectation or desire to do business with you? Does each provide a WIIFM (what's in it for me) experience for the reader?

Do you consider the sequence you will send the various documents, or the order in which they will be received by your customer/client? Can you build customer momentum by carefully designing an invitation or incentive to do further business with you as they receive each item? Does your business stationery incorporate a follow-up offer after a matter is successfully concluded? These are all ideas that you can consider incorporating into your new, revised, freshly designed, effective, income generating business stationery.

Yes! I know it's a big subject… so for more print design ideas and advice read on through this section of the site for ideas on specific stationery items you may want to use in your business.
